On Day 11 of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, India secured a gold medal in the compound archery mixed team final. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravis Ojas Deotale performed brilliantly, surpassing India’s previous best Asiad medal tally. Currently, India has accumulated 76 medals, an improvement from their 2018 Jakarta tally of 70. Additionally, India also clinched a bronze medal in the 35km race walk mixed team final. Lovlina Borgohain claimed a silver medal after a 0-5 defeat in the women’s 75 kg boxing final. Parveen secured a bronze medal in the 57kg women’s boxing semifinal. In men’s Greco-Roman 87Kg wrestling, Sunil Kumar added another bronze medal to India’s tally by defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Atabek Azisbekov with a score of 2-1.
Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu secured India’s spot in the mixed doubles final by defeating Hong Kong’s Ka Yi Lee and Chi Him Wong. This guarantees India at least a silver medal. However, an all-Indian mixed doubles final was avoided as Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh lost to Malaysia’s Aifa Binti and Mohammad Syafiq in the other semifinal, earning them bronze medals. Saurav Ghosal delivered a dominant performance in the men’s singles squash semifinals by defeating Hong Kong’s Leung C.H.H in straight games.
India’s star athlete, Neeraj Chopra, is determined to secure a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw final. Kishore Kumar Jena, another Indian competitor in the same event, also has his sights set on a podium finish. In other track and field events, we have Harmilan Bains and Chanda, who will be competing in the women’s 800m finals. Harmilan is aiming for her second medal at this continental event, having previously earned a silver in the women’s 1500m. Avinash Sable, the gold medalist in men’s 3000m steeplechase, is looking to replicate his success, this time in the men’s 5000m. Joining him in this long-distance race is Gulveer Singh, who has already secured a medal in the Asian Games by finishing third in the men’s 10,000m final.
