On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Modi shared a photo and captioned it in Italian: “Had a meeting with PM Giorgia Meloni of Italy during the COP28 Summit. Excited about the joint initiatives between India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future.”
Meloni reciprocated by sharing a self-portrait alongside the Prime Minister of India, captioning it, “Close pals at COP28. #Melodi.”
PM Modi participated in a series of one-on-one meetings at the Dubai Summit, discussing crucial global issues with various world leaders. His discussions included talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Barbados counterpart Mia Amor Mottley, French President Emmanuel Macron, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and UK PM Rishi Sunak.
On the sidelines, Modi also met with King Charles III, recognizing his significant role in addressing climate change. Modi expressed, “Earlier today in Dubai, I had the chance to talk with King Charles, who is deeply committed to environmental conservation and sustainable development. He plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change,” as reported on X.
Additionally, the Indian Prime Minister held discussions with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, covering various bilateral and global issues. Modi shared, “Met Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, and had a fruitful conversation on various matters,” as mentioned on X.
Modi visited Dubai to participate in the World Climate Action Summit, a key part of COP28 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He emphasized the significant impact of climate change on Global South nations and underscored the need for climate finance and technology to fulfill their aspirations.
Modi also pointed out the disproportionate impact of climate change on countries like India, despite their smaller contributions to it. The Prime Minister returned to Delhi late on Friday night.
