British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dismissed the country’s interior minister Suella Braverman, according to the BBC.
The BBC has reported that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has removed the country’s interior minister Suella Braverman as part of a reshuffle in the top ministerial team. This decision comes amid increasing pressure on Rishi Sunak to dismiss Suella Braverman following accusations that she exacerbated tensions leading up to Armistice Day violence.
Last week, Suella Braverman went against Rishi Sunak’s stance by publishing an article criticizing the police’s handling of a march that occurred on Saturday. Her actions were condemned for escalating tensions and encouraging right-wing protesters to take to the streets of London, prompting Rishi Sunak to take corrective measures.
Regarding the protests, Suella Braverman made a highly unusual criticism of the police, claiming that London’s police force was turning a blind eye to lawbreaking by “pro-Palestinian mobs” and labeling those calling for a cease-fire in Gaza as “hate marchers.” In response to far-right violence during the weekend protests, she stated, “Our brave police officers deserve the thanks of every decent citizen for their professionalism in the face of violence and aggression from protesters and counter-protesters in London yesterday. That multiple officers were injured doing their duty is an outrage.”

“The offensive, provocative, and, in some instances, clearly illegal chants, signs, and items openly displayed during the march represent a new low. The widespread presence of antisemitism and other forms of racism, coupled with the glorification of terrorism, on such a scale is deeply concerning,” she added.
The 43-year-old minister of Goan origin has frequently stirred controversy in her high-ranking role in the UK Cabinet.
Speaking to Sky News, Armed Forces Minister James Heappey distanced himself from Suella Braverman’s contentious remarks about the Met Police last week.
“There has been excessive speculation about the Metropolitan Police by politicians in the media,” he said, adding that he would not have used the same words as Suella Braverman – echoing sentiments expressed by UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.
