Kolkata Police have summoned officials from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the online ticket purchasing portal in response to a report about alleged ticket black marketing for the ICC World Cup 2023 match between India and South Africa on November 5. The police had initially requested their presence on November 3, but no representatives from CAB or the online ticket portal attended.
A case was registered on November 2 at Maidan Police Station following a complaint from cricket fans who claimed that tickets for the India-South Africa match were being sold on the black market due to collusion between an online portal, CAB, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to the complainants, various BCCI and CAB officials, along with the online ticket service, had reserved a significant number of tickets meant for the general public, making them available to black-market operators.
In response, a senior CAB official refuted the allegations, stating that their role was limited to hosting the game and that ticket sales were managed by the web platform and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
