Ahmedabad: South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, expressed hope on Friday that his resilient nature would assist in easing the discomfort of his injury as he strategizes for the journey to the World Cup final.
Bavuma contributed 23 runs as his team concluded their group stage with a five-wicket victory against Afghanistan in Ahmedabad.
“My leg is experiencing some soreness. I’m uncertain about the extent of it at the moment, but I’ll need to recover.”
“I’m quite stubborn; it’ll have to do,” stated the 33-year-old Bavuma.
With a semi-final against the five-time champions Australia on the horizon next week, Bavuma insists on being at the core of the action as South Africa is just two wins away from a historic World Cup triumph.
“I could have chosen not to bat, but I want to be out there for my team,” Bavuma added, revealing he missed the wins over England and Bangladesh earlier in the tournament due to illness. “It was an opportunity to get some time in the middle that I didn’t want to miss.
“Leading this team is crucial to me, guiding the bowlers and maintaining that momentum. So, I believed it was the right decision to stay out there.”
