165 cricketers are set to be auctioned at the WPL 2024 Player Auction on December 9 in Mumbai.
The Women’s Premier League 2024 Auction is set for December 9, featuring a roster of 165 cricketers ready to be auctioned. Among them, 104 are Indian players, and 61 are international cricketers, with 15 hailing from associate nations. The list comprises 56 capped players and 109 uncapped cricketers. Teams can fill a maximum of 30 slots, including nine reserved for overseas players.
The Gujarat Giants are heading into the auction with the most substantial salary cap, totaling ₹5.95 crore. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions, have the smallest purse at ₹2.1 crore among the five teams. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals, last season’s runners-up, have a purse of ₹2.25 crore. Notably, only two players, West Indies’ Deandra Dottin and Australia’s Kim Garth, have the highest base price of ₹50 lakh.
The WPL 2024 auction is scheduled for December 9 in Mumbai. Deandra Dottin, who was part of Gujarat in WPL 2023 with a ₹60 lakh price tag, faced controversy as she was withdrawn from the tournament before it began. Subsequently, she was replaced by Kim Garth but has now been released by the franchise.
Before the auction, 60 players were retained across the five teams, including 21 overseas players, while 29 cricketers were released from their current rosters. In a surprising move, UP Warriorz released pacer Shabnim Ismail, who participated in only three fixtures in WPL 2023, securing three wickets at an economy rate of 8.76. Additionally, UP Warriorz shockingly released Devika Vaidya, who was signed for ₹1.4 crore in the last auction but scored only 77 runs and took a wicket in seven games.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore let go of Australian player Megan Schutt, who participated in eight matches in the previous season and secured four wickets with an economy rate of 8.46. Additionally, Delhi Capitals released Tara Norris, who was acquired for ₹10 lakhs. Gujarat released all-rounder Sophia Dunkley, bought for ₹60 lakhs.
