Apple is anticipated to produce its inaugural iPhone 17 smartphone in India, shifting away from China as the primary manufacturing location. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that production is expected to commence in 2024, with the phone’s official release slated for 2025.

Apple is set to boost its manufacturing efforts in India by producing the first iPhone 17, as noted by renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This marks a departure from Apple’s usual manufacturing hub in China. The iPhone 17 is expected to launch in 2025, with production slated to begin in India in 2024.
Ming-Chi Kuo, in a Medium post, highlighted that this marks the first instance of Apple developing a new iPhone model outside of China. The choice of the standard iPhone model for this endeavor is due to its lower design complexity, which mitigates design risks.
The production of iPhones in India is expected to increase significantly. iPhone shipments from India are projected to comprise around 12-14% of the total in 2023, growing to 20-25% of iPhone production capacity in 2024.
Furthermore, Kuo anticipates a decline in production at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou and Taiyuan factories by 35-40% and 75-80%, respectively, in 2024. Foxconn, a Taiwan-based company, owns a substantial portion of the capacity used for iPhone manufacturing in India. Notably, the Tata Group is gearing up to produce India’s first domestically manufactured iPhone after Wistron Corp approved the sale of an assembly plant near Bengaluru.
Apple aims to strengthen its partnership with the Indian government, which could lead to increased sales of iPhones and other products in India, driving growth for the Cupertino-based tech giant over the next decade.
The production of Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series in India showcases the company’s growing emphasis on the Indian market. If this latest report holds true, Apple may further favor its Indian manufacturing partners.
