Microsoft is currently in the process of testing a fresh Energy Saver mode for Windows 11 aimed at improving laptop battery life. The new battery-saving feature closely resembles the mode found in most devices that automatically activates when they are low on battery. This feature is currently undergoing testing by Windows Insider developers and users to assess its effectiveness and explore potential enhancements. The Energy Saver mode is designed to “extend and enhance” the existing battery-saving capabilities. According to a blog post on the Windows Insider website, the Energy Saving mode works by extending the device’s battery life and reducing energy consumption through the restriction of certain functions. Presently, the feature is being tested within the Canary Channel of the Windows Insider Program.
Crucially, the Energy Saver will function even when the device is in charging mode, enabling desktop users to reduce energy costs.
To activate battery saver in Windows 11, follow these steps:
- Click on the Start button located in the left corner of your screen.
- Open Settings on your device.
- Select the System option and navigate to “Power & battery.”
- Locate the “Energy Saver” feature and enable the toggle switch to activate it automatically when your device experiences battery drain.
In addition, Windows 11 is currently enhancing the performance of its Quick Settings in the system tray. Improvements are in progress for the VPN and Wi-Fi refresh button. The Canary Channel is actively working on various feature enhancements for Windows 11, so users can anticipate upcoming changes, including the new Energy Saver mode designed to enhance battery life for desktop and PC devices. It’s important to note that this feature is currently available to a limited audience.
