India’s Gaganyaan mission is a significant step in India’s efforts to prove that sending humans into space is achievable.
The Gaganyaan project aims to demonstrate human spaceflight capabilities by launching a crew of three members into a 400 km orbit for a 3-day mission, safely returning them to Earth by landing in Indian waters.
This program will make India the fourth country to conduct a manned spaceflight mission, following the United States, Russia, and China. Building on the success of Indian space endeavors, including the recent Chandrayan-3 and Aditya L1 missions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed India to pursue ambitious goals, including establishing the ‘Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040.
