Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Islamic Jihad for the Gaza hospital attack. In response, Palestinian Ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, accused Netanyahu of lying. Mansour mentioned a tweet by an Israeli digital spokesperson initially linking Israel to the attack near the hospital, which was later deleted.

Gaza is a small strip of land about 45 kilometers (25 miles) long, home to 2.3 million people. Since 2006, it has been under the control of Hamas, an Islamist group labeled as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States. An explosion happened shortly before US President Joe Biden was planning to visit Israel. His trip aims to show support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas and discuss strategies to minimize harm to civilians. The US is keen on preventing further escalation of the conflict, as per Reuters.
Regardless of the blame for the explosion, which Hamas has claimed led to the deaths of patients and displaced individuals due to Israeli airstrikes, it will complicate crisis management. This was evident when Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, decided to cancel a planned summit in Amman with President Biden, Egypt’s leaders, and the Palestinian territories.
In Ramallah, a city in the West Bank under Israeli control, Palestinian security forces used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse protestors who were throwing rocks and expressing dissatisfaction with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The explosion in Gaza’s Al Ahli Arab hospital on Tuesday sparked protests near Israel’s embassies in Turkey and Jordan, as well as close to the US embassy in Lebanon. Security forces in Lebanon used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
The White House released a statement expressing US President Joe Biden’s strong outrage and profound sadness over the hospital explosion in Gaza. Biden stated, “The explosion at Al Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza and the tragic loss of life deeply saddens and outrages me.”
The World Health Organization expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday over a harmful strike on a Gaza hospital and urged immediate safeguarding of civilians and healthcare in the region. In a statement, the UN health agency strongly condemned the attack on Al Ahli Arab Hospital.
Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based militant group supported by Iran, strongly criticized Israel’s lethal assault on Gaza’s Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital, managed by the Anglican church. They also called for a “day of intense anger” against Israel, in reaction to President Biden’s visit.
