Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi and a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), arrived at his residence to visit his unwell wife on Saturday. A Delhi court had granted him permission on Friday to meet her between 10 am and 5 pm, under security supervision. Currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail due to his involvement in an alleged excise policy scam, Sisodia was transported to his home on Mathura Road in a prison van, accompanied by police personnel.
Initially requesting a five-day visit, Sisodia’s application highlighted his wife’s acute multiple sclerosis attack, an autoimmune condition affecting the central nervous system. Despite the plea, the court allowed a seven-hour meeting and instructed Sisodia to avoid interactions with the media and refrain from engaging in any political activities.
This wasn’t the first attempt for Sisodia to meet his ailing wife; in June, he had received permission, but the meeting couldn’t happen as she was hospitalized due to a sudden deterioration in her health.
Prior to his arrests by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in February and the subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Sisodia held the positions of deputy chief minister and oversaw the excise department in connection with the liquor policy scam case.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in its charge sheet has accused Manish Sisodia, the present defendant, of generating approximately ₹622 crore through criminal activities.
