“We were really confused and didn’t know what to do. The daughter of the elderly woman approached us and urged us to secure all the doors because the situation was spiraling out of control. A short while later, terrorists invaded our home, shooting and shattering glass,” recounted the survivor.
At approximately 1 pm, the sirens blared once more, she recalled, and then said, “The head of the household informed us that the Israeli army had arrived to rescue us. We never anticipated such a terrorist assault. Everything lay in ruins outside.”
Rahul, a resident of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, was caught in Israel during the Israel-Gaza conflict but has now reunited with his family.
Speaking about his return from the troubled country, Rahul shared, “I went to Israel in December 2022 for my PhD in the Pharmacy field. I stayed there for 10 months. My flight back to India was scheduled for 7th October, but it was canceled due to disturbances early in the morning on that day, just half an hour before takeoff.”
He continued, “Later, I learned about Operation Ajay, an initiative to bring back Indians from Israel during the ongoing Gaza conflict. I registered and got the chance to return to India through this initiative.”
Rahul’s father expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating his son’s return to India, stating, “I want to thank the government for promptly addressing the situation of Indians stranded in Israel due to canceled flights, which left their return uncertain. We appreciate Prime Minister Modi’s effective governance.”
Rahul’s mother also expressed relief and gratitude, saying, “We are very happy that our son has returned safely. The Israel-Hamas conflicts had caused a lot of tension. We are thankful for Operation Ajay, which safely brought our son back to the country.”
Operation Ajay is an ongoing effort by the Indian Armed Forces to evacuate Indian citizens from Israel during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war. The fourth flight from Israel under ‘Operation Ajay’ arrived in the national capital, carrying 274 Indian passengers.
The Indian embassy in Israel is providing support to Indian companies and has established a helpline for Indian citizens in need of assistance.
